Laurel Henning, senior correspondent on energy and climate change at MLex, graduated from the University of Liverpool with a degree in English and French. She moved to Brussels in 2013 to train as a journalist and subsequently started the Twitter-based campaign @EUPanelWatch with Marika Andersen in 2015 because she grew frustrated with the persistent lack of diversity of speakers at events in Brussels. As part of EUPanelWatch, Laurel helps to gather data on allmale panels and call out event organisers that are succeeding or failing to deliver better and more diverse debates that empower and inspire the next generation of leaders. The group of female professionals wants to promote and turn the idea that ‘real debate is found in diversity’ into a reality by constructively criticising organisers of all-male events as well. Laurel and Marika were recently placed third on a POLITICO list of “Women Who Shape Brussels.”

The 26th of January, she will come to Dijon for a conference on the need for diverse debate and how she is trying to change the face of conferences in Brussels through her Twitter campaign.
